REACTAVOX Releases:
Otherwise known as the “03 barrage of angst.” These four cuts, reminiscent of the BLEACH album Nirvana era, were recorded over a four-day session in July, 2003 at The Playground Studio in Chicago. Keith Cleversley (Flaming Lips, Hum, Mercury Rev) produced and engineered the session with assistance from Andy Bosnak. Actually, twelve songs were tracked (what were we thinking???), but only four were chosen for final mixing and mastering. Track #1, Misfit, usually gets the most comments from listeners as the “quintessential Reactavox sound”, but it’s the lyrics to track #3, Parasite, that spark everyone’s curiousity. For two solid days, Nick pounded the studio’s Bonham-style Ludwig kit with a super fat DW snare to create a live, massive sound. Shelia’s wall of melody and feedback emanated from a collection of vintage cabinets and amps, including Ampeg, Peavey, Marshall & Mesa Boogie. Fuel for the session was provided by a daily diet of veggie burritos, protein shakes, peanuts & multiple pots of strong coffee for Shelia and Andy. Mr. Bones and Ms. America provided feline entertainment and ample opportunity for heavy petting. The EP was mixed and mastered at The Playground in Aug./Sept. and work on the artwork commenced in October, 2003. Many, many thanks to Ted Grauch for sponsoring the artwork and to Frank Dreyer and Frank Mullen for the EP design. You won’t find a nicer or more talented bunch of WEERDOs anywhere... WEERDO now! |
